The Journey Begins

Although we left 4 days ago, I will start here - a very good place to start! We left in the midst of TS Fay hanging out in Daytona and gradually making her way across the state. When we left, the pool was 1 inch short of overflowing and we found out that we have a leak in our dining room wall. Well, that will have to wait - vacation calls!

We drove through A LOT of rain and as we were just outside of Jax. at about 4:30, MaKenna suggested that we stop for dinner and let the rush hour crowd pass. We decided to not do this, wanting to put lots of space between us and Fay. When we were just north of Jax, a severe weather alert came across the radio for the areas south of Jax that we had just drove through - Tornado warnings, with a tornado spotted in the area. Their advice was to pull over and get in a ditch - all of which were flooded! We were thankful that we were above that area and had not stopped. We saw so much debris, flooding and downed trees as we drove.

Here is Caleb in his self-made tent in the back seat:

We drove until almost 1 AM and stopped at a rest area for a few winks before getting back on the road and driving the rest of the way. We drove straight to the visitors center at Yorktown where Caleb got to watch them raise the flag for the day. It was his 9th birthday!! He has forgotten the whole time we have been here and always responds that he is 8!

Praise God! I am so thankful that y'all made it up there all right. We have been praying for you this whole time. It looks like it's gorgeous where you are now. Sarah did the same thing for her birthday with telling people that she was 8. Happy Birthday, Caleb!
